Mai Tran, PharmD, advises Golden Leaf Health on compounded bioidentical hormone prescriptions: what compounding is, when it's used, and how she works with the care team.

Mai Tran, PharmD

Mai Tran is a Doctor of Pharmacy and Golden Leaf Health’s compounding pharmacist advisor. When a patient’s plan calls for a compounded hormone preparation, she is the specialist who advises the care team on the formulation, the dosing form and what to watch for.

What a compounding pharmacist does here

Most hormone therapy at Golden Leaf uses FDA-approved products. Compounding is used when a patient needs a dose, combination or form that isn’t available commercially, or has an allergy to an ingredient in a standard product. Compounded hormones are made to a prescription in a licensed pharmacy. They are not FDA-approved as products, and they are not safer or more “natural” than approved bioidentical hormones; the BHRT vs HRT guide explains the difference in full. Mai’s role is to make sure that when compounding is the right choice, the preparation is appropriate and the patient understands exactly what they’re taking.

In her words

“One of the things that sets us apart is our expertise in customized formulations of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Every patient is unique, which is why we tailor treatments to their specific needs. It brings me so much joy to see patients feeling better and living their best lives because of the care we provide.”
