Thyroid Disease
The thyroid is an important gland that monitors metabolic activity, energy expenditure, reproduction, body weight, heart rate, and breathing. When your thyroid is “under producing” hormones (hypothyroid), you may begin to have symptoms such as:
-
- Trouble sleeping
- Fatigue
- Difficulty concentrating
- Dry skin
- Thinning hair
- Depression
- Sensitivity to cold temperature
- Frequent, heavy periods
- Constipation
- Joint and muscle pain
When your thyroid is “over producing hormones” (hyperthyroid), you may have symptoms such as:
-
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Nervousness
- Sweating or sensitivity to hot temperatures
- Trembling hands
- Hair loss
- Missed or light menstrual periods
Some patients may have thyroid related autoimmune conditions called Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Grave’s disease. In these conditions the body begins to “attack” the thyroid gland. Comprehensive lab testing will show us how your thyroid is functioning and if there is an underlying autoimmunity. We can find the root of your symptoms, support your thyroid so that it functions optimally, and get you feeling better.
